Jeff Stone fulfills multiple roles for Mississippi Power and Gulf Power, adding vice president of Legal Services, Corporate Secretary and Chief Compliance Officer responsibilities at Mississippi Power in July 2018.
Stone continues in his roles of vice president, general counsel and corporate secretary at Gulf Power, positions he has held since July 2017. He has served on Gulf Power's Management Council as general counsel since 1987.
At Mississippi Power, he is responsible for leadership over governance as well as the business functions of Legal Counsel, Corporate Secretary, Risk Management and Claims, Compliance and Concerns, Records Management and Security.
Stone began his legal career in 1980 as an assistant public defender for the Eighth Judicial Circuit of Florida, headquartered in Gainesville, Fla. In 1984, he returned to Pensacola and joined the Beggs & Lane law firm.
At Beggs & Lane, Stone represented Gulf Power in numerous regulatory proceedings before the Florida Public Service Commission, including the initial creation of the Purchased Power Capacity Cost Recovery Clause and the Environmental Compliance Cost Recovery Clause, as well as base rate reviews in 1988-89, 1989-90, 1993, 1999, 2001-02, 2011-12, 2013 and 2016-17.
A native of Pensacola, Florida, he is a graduate of Leadership Pensacola and has served on the board of the Foundation for Excellence in Education, Vice President of the Greater Pensacola Aquatic Club, and both Junior and Senior Warden of St. Christopher's Episcopal Church and a past trustee for the St. Christopher's Endowment Trust. He is a longtime adult volunteer with the Boy Scouts of America and is the recipient of that organization's Silver Beaver Award as well as an Eagle Scout.
Stone earned a bachelor's degree in Business Administration, with High Honors, majoring in Management from the University of Florida and a juris doctorate degree, with Honors, also from the University of Florida.
He and his wife, Taren, have three children and five grandchildren.
